Fragile Pathing: The Dangers of String Splitting
A common source of “brittle” code is using string manipulation to parse file paths. A classic antipattern is splitting on a dot to extract a filename: md_file_name.split('.md')[0].
The Problem: The “Multiple Dot” Bug
This approach works for simple files like notes.md, but it collapses immediately when your naming convention evolves. If you have a file named release.v1.md, a split on .md results in ['release.v', '']. The resulting filename becomes release.v, incorrectly stripping parts of your versioning scheme.
The Modern Solution: pathlib.Path
Python’s pathlib module, introduced in 3.4, treats paths as objects rather than strings. This allows the OS-level path parsing logic to handle complex extensions and directory structures reliably.

Why pathlib is Superior

+or f-strings to join paths. Use the/operator provided bypathlib:folder / subfolder / filename.md. - Use

path.suffix == '.md'rather than checking if the filename ends with the string.
